About US

Health Education & Literacy (HEAL) Trust was established in 1987 with focus on community development. It focuses on women empowerment through literacy, non formal education, health education especially reproductive health and capacity building of adolescent girls and women in rural areas. It conducts various training workshops and refresher courses for confidence building and self reliance of the most disadvantage segment of the society which is women, adolescent girls and children. 

HEAL has a Board of Trustees which is responsible for policy making and provides directions and instruction for the smooth running of organization to implement various projects. Board appoints Executive Director who is responsible for the activities of Field Unit, Design Unit, Finance Section and General Administration. HEALís annual budget and audit is approved annually by Finance committee. HEAL has a dedicated team of 8 members, except Finance Manager, all are females. Team believes in strong interpersonal communication for the smooth functioning of the organization.

HEAL believes in the networking with other organizations and is currently member of Pakistan Reproductive Health Network (PRHN), The Literacy Forum, Punjab NGO Coordination Council, Population Association of Pakistan and UNGEI. It has regular contacts with other organizations and donors through e-mails, fax, courier and post.

Since its establishment, HEAL has implemented various donor funded projects and provided consultancy services to different NGOs and government institutions. Currently HEAL is working in different union councils of District Nankana.


Aim and Objectives

The aim of HEAL is to help to improve the quality of life of the people of Pakistan especially the most vulnerable and irrespective of creed, color, race or gender


*                    Promoting education, especially health and functional literacy education in the non-formal sector

*                    Promoting non formal primary and middle education for adolescent girls in remote areas

*                    Promoting individual and community self-development and self- reliance

*                    Research and experimentation in educational methods and materials

*                    Production of appropriate educational materials using community - based participatory methodology

*                     Motivation and training of trainers, teachers, health workers and community workers in appropriate creative communication   techniques

*                    Conducting surveys, evaluation and feasibility studies in health, education and other socio-economic fields

*                    Meeting the needs of other agencies, where possible, for materials and training in the above fields

*                    Cooperating with and assisting other organizations and government agencies with similar aims and objectives

*                    Establishing and maintaining an up-to-date stock of resource materials and disseminating information on education, health, environment, human rights and community development
